Marissa Oca founded the Gig and the Amazing Sampaguita Foundation, Inc. (GASFI) in memory of her son, Gig, transforming personal grief into a lifelong mission of service, literacy, and family empowerment. As the daughter of Master Mariner Capt. Gregorio S. Oca, founder of the Associated Marine Officers’ and Seamen’s Union of the Philippines (AMOSUP), she has dedicated much of her professional life to advancing the welfare of Filipino seafarers and their families through healthcare, education, leadership development, and community building. As head of AMOSUP Community Development (CommDev), she helped strengthen initiatives such as the AMOSUP hospital network and the development of the Seaman’s Village community, now home to hundreds of families with schools, cultural spaces, and programs designed to uplift lives.
A lifelong educator and deeply curious learner, Marissa also teaches Project Me at Saint Pancras Academy, the school she founded, where she encourages young people to develop self-awareness, purpose, compassion, and resilience.
Through GASFI, the Gregorio Oca Leadership and Development Foundation (GOLD), and her other advocacies, Marissa continues to create opportunities for learning, wellness, and compassionate leadership, always guided by faith, generosity, and a profound sense of responsibility to others.
